Letters from Mother Teresa to the Missionaries of Charity

Letters from Mother Teresa

The joy of the Lord be your strength

October 1978

My dear sons, Father Sebastian and everyone else from the “Gift of Love” in Rome.
Let us thank God for his tender love for each of us.
Be “Ekdil-Prempur” [“a heart full of love”].
May the joy of the Lord be your strength - a bond of love, peace and joy to Our Lady and one to the other. Let us pray.

God bless you.
The mother

Congratulations on the feast of the innocent children

December 28, 1978

My dear brothers,
My best wishes on the Feast of the Innocent Children, which is your feast because the little congregation of the Brothers of the Word is still a little child like the child of Bethlehem.
I pray that - since you have already given everything for Christ - that you can also give your life as a martyr, just like these little children of Bethlehem.
I ask you to pray fervently for Mother as I do for you.

God bless you.
The mother

You are always in my prayers

Yemen, 4th August 1981

My dear brothers, dear Father Sebastian and everyone else in Rome,
My letter brings you all the Mother's affection, blessings and prayer so that you can grow and become more and more like Christ through love and humility, so that the holiness of God may be proclaimed to all you meet.
You are always in my prayers so that you become free to allow Jesus to live His life perfectly in you.
I hope that you have met Archbishop Mayer [Paul Augustin Mayer, OSB, then secretary of the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and today cardinal, from whom Mother Teresa and the missionaries often asked for "gifts", i.e. advice and little help, note. d.Red.] and was able to speak to him. I still hope to receive his anniversary gift.
On Saturday I am going to Africa and I ask you to pray for me. A happy and holy feast of the Immaculate Heart of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary, cause of all our joy.

God bless you.

Dear Mayor,
I am traveling back to India today and have tried to contact you.
I hope you are doing well! I have prayed for you. I have a favor to ask for our poor.
I would be very grateful if you could send someone to via Sant’Agapito 8 (Largo Preneste), 00177 Rome, Tel. (06) 201771. We need your approval again, as we did with via Casilina.
I will pray for you.

God bless you!.

Ask Our Lady to show us God's will

May 24, 1985

My dear brothers,
this letter brings you the affection, blessings and prayer of the Mother that you may all be humble like Mary and holy like Jesus.
I want to give you a gift: you should belong to the Congregation as contemplative missionaries of charity.
That is why you should pray, ask Our Lady, to show us the will of God and for the grace to accept it.
Let us pray.

God bless you.
M. Teresa, m.c.

Keep in your hearts the joy of loving Jesus

May 2, 1990

My dear lay missionaries of charity,
keep in your hearts the joy of loving Jesus
and share this joy with everyone you meet, especially in your family.
Always pray together and stay together.
Always be there only for Jesus through Mary.
Let us pray.

God bless you.
M. Teresa, m.c.

We are a heart full of love in the heart of Jesus

My dear brothers,
we are a heart full of love in the heart of Jesus through Mary. We are pure and humble like Mary and will be holy like Jesus.

God bless you.
M. Teresa, m.c.

The last message *

July 19, 1997

My dear Father Sebastian, dear brothers,
let us thank God for his love for us all.
Let us pray that, with His blessings and help, we will continue to love Him and serve in the poor.
In particular, we pray to Our Lady, who is a mother to each of the missionaries of charity.
Keep praying for me!

God bless you!
M. Teresa, m.c.
