Matthew Perry

Matthew Perry was born on August 19, 1969 in Williamstown, Massachusetts. His parents, a Canadian journalist and an American actor, divorced when he was just one year old. Matthew grew up since then with his mother and her new husband Keith Morrison, also a journalist, in Ottawa, Canada.

During his childhood, Matthew was an enthusiastic tennis player and quickly made it to a top spot in the Canadian Junior League. But acting was also his passion at the time. And so, at the age of 15, young Matthew moved away from home to Los Angeles to pursue both careers. But as soon as he arrived in L.A., he lost most of the tennis games and so he finally decided to become an actor.

But that didn't quite work either. Only when he was approached in a restaurant by the director William Richters and invited to a casting did the tide seem to turn. A short time later he starred alongside River Phoenix in "A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon". Then things slowly went uphill. He got guest roles in various TV films and series. But none of that was enough to make Matthew more famous. So he went from casting to casting and kept shooting.

It wasn't until he went to a casting on a new NBC show in 1994 that everything suddenly changed. Matthew got the role of Chandler Bing on the 10-season sitcom Friends. He became a star overnight, had fans and no more money problems.

Three years later, when Matthew was filming the comedy "Fools Rush In" with Salma Hayek in his spare time, he was seriously injured while jet skiing. Despite the right treatment, Matthew couldn't get rid of the pain and so vicodin and alcohol became his constant companions in order to be pain free.

That went well for almost four years, during which he continued to shoot "Friends" and hits like "Keine halbenachen" (2000) in the breaks. But in 2000, while filming the comedy "Scheiden ist sweet", he was admitted to hospital with an inflammation of the pancreas. Now Matthew had time to think about his life and he decided to finally renounce the drugs and alcohol and went into rehab. A few months later and 20 kilos lighter, Matthew was healthy again just in time for the start of shooting of the seventh "Friends" season, and the missed scenes in "Scheiden istweet" were also re-shot.

Even later, Matthew continued to shoot during the breaks in "Friends" and was also in other series such as "Ally McBeal" and "The West Wing - In the Center of Power" as well as in the sequel to "No halves", namely "None half measures 2 ", see.

When Friends ended after 238 episodes in 2004, Matthew was a wealthy man (he made $ 1 million per episode last season), but he wasn't resting.

He was with his father, who also played his father there, in an episode of "Scrubs" before he made the 2006 television film "The Ron Clark Story". He received a lot of praise for the role of Ron Clark and was nominated for a Golden Globe, among other things. In the same year Matthew got a lead role in the new NBC series "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip". Despite the fact that the show was very popular with critics, the ratings fell far short of expectations and so the series was canceled after only one season.

But that didn't ruin Matthew's career either. In 2007 he got a role in the Switch comedy "17 Again" (2009) alongside Michelle Trachtenberg and Zac Efron. Since 2011 he can be seen again on ABC in the lead role of a comedy series, namely in "Mr. Sunshine".

There is only speculation about Matthew's personal life. He is said to have relationships with Meg Ryan, Jennifer Aniston and also Lauren Graham, but nothing has been confirmed. He has been in a relationship with the agent and manager Molly Hurwitz since 2018. In 2020 he got engaged to her.
