Usually, the Chrome browser automatically updates in the background when you start it. However, new releases are usually not distributed en bloc, but in several stages. So if you need an update very urgently, it can be worthwhile to initiate the update manually.

The browser then opens a new tab. In this dialog you can see the various settings categories on the left, while Google searches for updates in the right pane. If you're already up to date, Chrome will tell you that you're already using the latest version of the browser.
