The legacy of the spies

(273)

1961: Two people die on the Berlin Wall, Alec Leamas, British top spy, and his girlfriend Liz Gold. 2017: George Smiley's former assistant Peter Guilliam is appointed to the Home Office. The children of spies Alec Leamas and Elizabeth Gold threaten to sue the government. The investigation raises new questions: Why did the agents have to die at the Berlin Wall? Did British intelligence sacrifice them too lightly? Do the motifs from then still hold up today? In a dense and tense interrogation, Peter Guilliam reconstructs what happened shortly after the Berlin Wall was built. Until George Smiley enters the scene and the action appears in a new light.
